Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why choose organic products?
This one’s simple. Your skin is your largest organ and its main mission is to protect your internal organs from harmful toxins entering your body. As you would be conscious with what you put in your body, you want to be careful with what you put on it as well.
Organic cosmetics and skincare products typically contain no synthetic ingredients, but rather incorporate the best that Mother Nature has to offer.

2) Do organic products work as well as non-organic ones?
Just like for non-organic skincare and cosmetics, there are some great ones out there and some that aren’t so great. However, nearly all ‘conventional’ products have a great organic (or partly organic) counterpart out there. We here at Organic Makeup Reviews carefully check the quality and claims of all the products we recommend.
3) The label says ‘all-natural’- is that good enough?
Unfortunately, not really! All-natural doesn’t really mean anything, and just becomes something is all-natural, doesn’t mean it’s any good for you. Arsenic can be ‘all-natural’, but you definitely don’t want to use it on your skin!!
4) How do I know a product is really organic?
If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, this can be a bit tricky. Look carefully through the ingredient list and see what proportion of the ingredients are labeled as ‘organic’. Also, look for the USDA Organic label on the package; this verifies that the ingredients are certified organic.
For all products on our site, we carefully check these ingredient lists and ensure that there is a clear indication of which components are/are not organic.
5) Aren’t organic products more expensive?
No, definitely not! Just like with conventional products, organic ones come in a range of price points. We recommend products at all levels to fit various budgets.
6) How do you select which products you recommend?
Very, very carefully! Firstly, we review the ingredient lists for all products to ensure that they meet our high standards for organic origins and ethical considerations. Secondly, we test the products in-house and only recommend those that we would actually use ourselves. Lastly, we scour the online reviews and reports to check for adverse reactions or issues with product quality. For further details, see our About Us page.
7) What products do you use on a daily basis?
Great question! As I’m often reviewing/testing a fair amount of products at any given time, it does vary. But I have a few that I always try to incorporate. These include:
John Master’s Organic Hair Pomade (I have a short pixie cut at the moment.)
Avalon Organic’s Rosemary Bath/Shower Gel
Pangea Organic’s Lip Balm (Always in my purse!)
Konjac Exfoliating Facial Sponges
Thayers Alcohol-free Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera (Just discovered this one, but it’s not leaving anytime soon!)
8) What ingredients should I avoid? And why?
Many chemicals which are used in common, popular cosmetics are known irritants and carcinogens. Most of these ingredients are derived synthetically or from petroleum. Avoiding these substances serves to decrease overall exposure to harmful or irritating cosmetic ingredients which in turn leads to your increased health and longevity.
Two good websites to look at for more information are: The Environmental Working Group www.ewg.org and The San Francisco Breast Cancer Fund www.breastcancerfund.org. The SF Breast Cancer Fund publishes an excellent annual report that provides an eye opening glimpse into these commonly used chemicals and their potentially harmful effects.
